Message from our President!

Members of the South Dakota Chapter of HIMSS,

Thank you for electing me to serve as President of our South Dakota Chapter of HIMSS and allowing me to represent our state in HIMSS this current year, July 2018 through June 2019. As the new President, I would also like to thank you for participating in the recent election of our newest board members. It is a pleasure to have these new members - Brenda Soper, President-Elect; Michelle Walter, Secretary; Maggie Jelen, Program Director; and Stacie Davis; Director-at-large - joining our board and to work with them in the coming year. They join the currently serving board members, Holly Arends, Treasurer; Brookes Noem, Membership Director; Kristi Jones, Communications Director; and Erica Knippling, Past President. It is an honor and privilege to work with such a great team of people who volunteer their time and talents, and are working so enthusiastically for our Chapter.

The Spring HIT Forum in May was very successful again this year, with exciting and interestinging topics and engaging speakers. We graciously thank the Program Committee, who worked tirelessly putting this program together. Our Program Director and Program Committee are now working on speakers and presentations for the SDAHO Annual Convention, scheduled in Sioux Falls this year, on September 19 through 21st. Remember to save these dates on your calendar and registration will soon be open for this event. We hope to see you there.

We are pleased that our current membership is at 456 members and we continue to look for more opportunities to grow. A chapter growth initiative is the affiliate organization ambassadors who are in a role that provides a direct communication line from the board members to the organization, and we plan to strengthen these relationships in the coming year. Membership in HIMSS gives you access to the national HIMSS website and the many resources it offers. There is access to Health IT News; Professional Development; Industry Research; and upcoming Events, including the annual HIMSS Global Conference and Exhibition. The membership gives you access to many other opportunites including communication with other colleagues across the spectrum of Health Information and Technology as well as advancing your education goals and professional growth in Health Information and Technology. So, go to the HIMSS website frequently, and check it out!

And, if you are interested in becoming a more active member in our local, South Dakota Chapter, we are always looking for members to serve. We have several committees we need members to join and participate in, including the Program, Communication, Nominations, and Sponsorship committees. For more information about these committees, or other opportunites to become involved, please feel free to email us at sd.info@himsschapter.org.

Thank you,

Marcine Forrette

President, South Dakota Chapter of HIMSS
