HIMSS South Dakota Spring HIT Forum - Canceled

From HIMSS South Dakota concerning cancelation of our Spring HIT Forum:

Over the past few weeks, COVID-19 Coronavirus has become a global topic of concern. Even as the State of South Dakota is only in the early stages of identifying and combatting the spread, this is clearly an event that bears our due attention.

Today, after deliberation, HIMSS South Dakota Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel the Spring HIT Forum. Keeping in line with National HIMSS, Federal and State public health authorities, and through an overabundance of caution, it is the most prudent option available. At this time, it is clear that it would be an unacceptable risk to bring so many people together for our annual meeting. Several speakers from outside our region are limiting travel and declined to attend.

Because the situation is very dynamic and the extent of the spread of the virus is unknown, we are cancelling the event without plans to re-schedule. As a board we will work to provide opportunities virtually that help HIMSS SD meet our mission to support those who lead in the Health Information Technology environment.

Much like HIMSS, our obligation is to protect the health and safety of the HIMSS South Dakota community, employees and local residents, as well as the healthcare providers tasked with keeping our state and regional communities healthy. Many of our members are on the front line of combatting the spread of the disease and working aggressively to ensure we reduce the incidence of the outbreak here at home.

Our program chair and committee have been working tirelessly to provide an event worthy of the organization and we would like to recognize their hard work.

Our sponsors will be contacted with further information regarding arrangements. Any further updates regarding HIMSS SD Spring HIT Forum will be published using social media and our website.
